Well, fundamentals matter: good managers who care about their employees, clear communications, flexibility, a culture of support, rewarding compensation and benefits, and a workplace focused on safety all register high on the employee satisfaction scale.
But you know what else makes for a good place to work? Knowing you are doing important work. Sometimes we forget that as a very basic matter people want to make a difference–they want their work to matter.
